Voice Lessons

Voice lessons have two distinct sections - the first half focusing on technical exercises, the second on repertoire the student has prepared. Our work primarily focuses on breathing, vowel shaping, body awareness and mapping, and learning to trust your own unique instrument. Lessons are goal oriented toward any student needs (auditions, recital, performance, etc.), and focus on technical growth. Repertoire is learner centered - I want to work on what you're interested in, but I will make suggestions based on what your goals are, and what is appropriate for your level.

Voice lessons are ideal for ages 10+ who have an advanced interest in performing, competing, or auditioning for college. This also includes college aged students still pursuing music, or adults looking to become better technically and maintain amateur careers.

Jessica’s students regularly appear in community theatre and by-audition choral groups in Virginia. Her students appeared in lead and supporting roles with The Little Theatre of Alexandria and City of Fairfax Theatre Company. Other students perform with Washington Performing Arts Children of the Gospel Choir, and are members and featured soloists with Voce Chamber Singers.

Grade school students have matriculated to The Walnut Hill School for the Arts to continue their performing arts specific journeys. High school students have gone on to Northwestern University, and received major scholarships at Muhlenberg College, The Filene Scholarship in Music at Skidmore College, and finalist for scholarship at Assumption College.

If your child is is interested in voice lessons, and is younger than 10, please consider signing up for piano lessons (detailed below).

Voice lesson reviews

"Jessica is one of, if not the most effective, talented, and knowledgeable vocal instructors I've had the pleasure of learning from! I'm a professional singer in the DMV area with a bachelor's in music and was looking for a teacher when I moved to Arlington. And these past 2 years, I've never regretted trusting Jessica with my voice. She knows how to push you to be your best and has so many tools and ways to make your voice shine all while being so kind and considerate. I couldn't recommend her more to everyone. From kids to adults, I've seen the way she lifts up all her students and makes them flourish vocally. Definitely try out a lesson with her! You won't regret it.”

Emily S., adult student

"Jessica makes my lessons fun and enjoyable, and I always look forward to it. She is one of my only teachers I can place my trust in, and not be afraid to let my voice out, or make mistakes. With her, my voice is continuing to make progress."

Victoria S., grade school student

"My daughter has been taking voice lessons with Jessica for around 6 months. Jess' energy, excitement, and incredible talent shine through as she teaches. Jess has taught her many great warm-up exercises and how to strengthen her voice. My daughter's quality, tone, and her range have increased dramatically. But the best part is her increased trust in her voice and confidence in her ability. She leaves every lesson filled with joy and enthusiasm, returning home to continue to practice the skills she worked on with Jessica during the lesson. It has been going so well, we increased to hour lessons so that they have more time for warming up and digging into the vocal nuances in the songs. There has been a huge improvement in my daughter's voice!"

Beginner to intermediate piano lessons

Jessica teaches beginner piano with an emphasis on music theory, reading, and musicianship in a fun and adventurous environment. Lessons blend focused exercises, work through an appropriate piano method book, enriching games, sight reading, and exploration (through ear training, learning songs the student loves, or some light composition) to help students find their love of music - and love of practicing!

Jessica is accepting students ages 8+ and adults, and can only offer 45 or 60 minute lessons at this time.

Pricing is available upon request.

Piano Lesson Reviews

“Jessica is an amazing teacher! She works great with kids and has a very positive attitude. Her home studio is very neat and professional. Our daughter (age 8) has progressed quickly on piano since beginning weekly lessons with Jessica. She went from total beginner to reading music and playing with both hands in just a few months, and her self-confidence has grown. You will not find a better voice and beginning piano teacher in the area. She does recitals a couple of times a year and it is great to hear the range of talent from her other students. We considered taking lessons at a music store, but are so glad we found Jessica.”
